A immigrant to the United States, Zizi Majid began her career in Singapore as a theatre director and playwright. For five years, she served as Artistic Director of Teater Ekamatra, the only woman to helm the company in its thirty year history. During her tenure, she tripled audiences, doubled funding, secured multiple commissions and propelled the company into mainstream Singapore theatre. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council for her extraordinary contributions to Singapore theatre.
